Nyungwe Forest

The Nyungwe Forest, one of the oldest rainforests in Africa, is home to a diversity of spectacular richness and boasts amazing and breathtaking landscapes. It is located in the southwest of Rwanda, on the border with Burundi to the south and Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the west side, It has an area of approximately 970 square km of tropical rainforest of overwhelming exuberance, as well as bamboo forest, grasslands, swamps and bogs.

Communities of chimpanzees and twelve other different species of primates live in the park, among which we can find, for example, the de l’hoest monkey that is endemic to the Albertine Rift fault and that we can also find in Uganda.

It is also a place where we can practice adventure sports, as it has hiking and cycling trails, as well as the exciting Canopy Walkway and the impressive Ndambarare and Kamiranozu waterfalls.

Ornithology lovers will also find in Nyungwe a small paradise place where they can enjoy the more than 300 species of birds registered in the park, of which 30 are endemic to the Albertine Rift Valley region.
